A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department veteran officer was killed while riding his bicycle on an Irvine road the other day. Although he was part of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, he lived in Irvine.

The detective was struck by an SUV and taken to a nearby hospital where he died from injuries he sustained.  The 35-year old SUV driver and her infant child were not hurt.

Officers are investigating the accident to determine what happened; it is not clear which lanes either vehicle were in. In addition, they do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor – no arrests were made.

If you are on a bicycle and are injured by another vehicle, contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who will protect your rights.

A woman and her young daughter were in an SUV traveling on the southbound 15 Freeway in Rancho Cucamonga when she lost control of the vehicle causing it to flip several times and roll down an embankment off the freeway.

California Highway Patrol, who responded to the accident, believe the incident was caused by a tire blow out.  Officers gained access to the passengers trapped inside by using a cable.

The two suffered moderate injuries.  They were taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

If the tire is determined to be faulty or have a defect, the owner of the vehicle may be able to file a lawsuit against the tire manufacturer. I hope the woman contacts an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney to discuss options on how to proceed.

What was supposed to be a fun three-day church mountain retreat for over 20 students from Pasadena turned into a nightmare for the group.  The bus carrying the students and heading home, collided with an SUV, causing the bus to crash into a power pole and end up in a snowy ravine.  The impact caused the seats to come loose and send all the passengers to the front of the bus.  Some students were trapped under other students or under the loose seats. The SUV was driven by an off-duty San Bernardino County fireman.

It took rescue crews hours to free the passengers.  The crash killed the 61-year old bus driver and sent the 23 passengers to local hospitals for treatment by ambulance and helicopters – ten were critically injured - two underwent emergency surgery.  The others sustained minor to moderate injuries.

The CHP plans on investigating and reconstructing the accident to determine what happened.  There was snow on the ground, but the road was clear.  It was also determined that the bus may not have had seat belts.

One of the passengers, a 12-year old girl, is unconscious and in extremely critical condition.

Even though California is known for its beautiful weather, there are still elevations, especially mountain cities that get snow and ice.

On a day, not too long ago, two people were killed and two critically injured when the driver, a 45-year old Sugarloaf woman, of an SUV lost control on an icy part of Highway 38 near Big Bear City.  The SUV spun around and landed on its side, slamming the roof into a tree on the shoulder of the highway.

There was a man riding in the front passenger seat and two passengers in the back seat. The driver and the passenger in the front died at the scene.  The two back-seat passengers were critically injured and taken to Loma Linda Medical Center for treatment.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.

A man, 69-year old man, charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in the crash that killed a 3-year old girl, in 2008, pleaded no contest in Pomona Superior Court.  The little girl was walking with her 5-year old sister and father near a school in Diamond Bar when the incident occurred.  The man’s Pathfinder went over the curb and struck the little girl; she died 24 hours later.

A sergeant from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department said the man was dropping off his children at the school when he lost control of his SUV.

The judge sentenced the man to 3 years of probation and 400 hours of community service at a local hospital.  He is also ordered to pay an unknown amount of restitution to the family of this little girl.

My condolences go out to the family and friends of this little girl.

A recent head-on collision in Adelanto resulted in the death of three people.  California Highway Patrol reported that a man traveling south on Highway 395 veered into oncoming traffic and crashed into an SUV driven by a 42-year old woman.  The SUV also had a 20-year old passenger - both were ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries.

The accident is under investigation.  It is unclear what caused the man to lose control of his vehicle.  It is also unclear if the victims in the SUV were wearing seatbelts since they were ejected from their vehicle.  If they were, were the seatbelts defective?

My sympathies are with the families and friends of all three victims.
