The Sherriff’s department arrested four individuals in three separate traffic accidents the weekend of March 13, 2010 – all involving alcohol or drugs.  One is an active-duty Marine.  He was arrested on suspicion of DUI after hitting two parked vehicles early Saturday morning.  After taking several field sobriety tests, he was arrested and booked in the Morongo Basin jail – released later that day.

In another incident, a 19-year old girl lost control of her truck and hit a utility pole.  The driver and her passenger, an 18-year old girl, were found to be under the influence of alcohol when sheriff deputies arrived.  The driver was arrested for DUI while the passenger was arrested for being drunk in public.  They, also, were booked in the Morongo Basin jail and released later.

The third accident involved a 21-year old man speeding on the Twentynine Palms Highway when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to roll several times.  His passenger, a 22-year old woman was knocked unconscious during the incident.  She was treated at a local hospital for head and neck injuries.  The driver, who abandoned his vehicle, was located later on and arrested on suspicion of felony DUI causing injuries to another.  He was booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga and held on $100,000 bail.

It is unfortunate that four people were involved and hurt – all because of alcohol and/or drugs.
