According to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office, a 33-year old woman died the other day after she ran a stop sign in Lucerne Valley.

A big-rig driver had no chance to stop and broadsided her vehicle.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Many drivers in California make what is called a “rolling stop”.  The driver slows down, but doesn’t come to a complete stop.  Not making any stop at all has proven fatal in this accident.

California Vehicle Code 22450(a) states, “The driver of any vehicle approaching a stop sign at the entrance to, or within, an intersection, or railroad grade crossing shall stop at a limit line, if marked, otherwise before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection.

Lucerne Valley was the scene of two motorcycle accidents recently.  A post office employee, was riding his motorcycle on Custer Avenue when he attempted to pass two vehicles in front of him by crossing a double yellow line.  As he attempted to pass, one of the vehicles turned left into a driveway and the post office employee crashed into it.

The post office employee was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center with a broken leg and an injured pelvis.  Doctors performed surgery on him and his condition is improving.

California Highway Patrol is investigating this accident to determine fault.  I hope the individuals involved contact an experienced Personal Injury Attorney to determine who is responsible and compensation involved.
