The weekend did not begin very well for two bicyclists out for a ride with their bicycle club in Apple Valley.
The two were hit by a mirror from a truck, causing them to fall off their bikes; the truck kept going – never stopped to see what happened or to help.
One of the bikers sustained major road rash; his bike’s frame was broken. The other biker suffered a concussion. Officers wanted to airlift him to a local hospital but because of foggy conditions, he was taken by ambulance. His ribs and shoulder were x-rayed.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident and looking for a dark-colored truck with damage to its right side. They are asking any witnesses to call them. California law requires anyone involved in an accident to stop.
I suggest the victims contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney. Accidents involving bicycles usually come down to negligence on the part of the biker or the driver that hit him or her. Hopefully, the police will find the trucker who left the scene.

According to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office, a 17-year old student from Twenty-nine Palms was riding his off-road motorcycle recently when he was hit broadside by a vehicle that did not stop to help him – the driver fled the scene.
California Vehicle Code 20001 states, “The driver of any vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to any person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of any person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.”
It continues in part with, “A person who flees the scene of the crime after committing a violation, upon conviction, shall be punished with imprisonment in the state prison.”
Paramedics who responded to the accident pronounced the young boy dead at the scene. The fatal accident is under investigation by the Major Accident Investigation Team in San Bernardino County. They are asking anyone with information about this tragic accident to please contact them.
I am hoping that the driver of the motor vehicle that killed this student is found and apprehended accordingly. I also hope that the family of the young victim contacts an experienced Personal Injury attorney in San Bernardino County to investigate for them.

A 46-year old Chino Hills woman was hit by a hit-and-run driver in a pickup truck the other morning as she stepped off the curb. Although the 63-year old driver tried to avoid hitting the woman, he did not. Instead of stopping, he fled the scene.
However, he did turn himself in to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s department several hours later. Police stated that the woman has a diminished mental capacity and may have stepped into traffic intentionally. She was taken by air to a nearby hospital and treated for moderate injuries.
The man was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of felony hit and run; he is being held on $50,000 bail and is scheduled for arraignment at the end of the week.

A man, who stole a truck the other day, and was seen on the 210 Freeway in downtown San Bernardino, is wanted by police.
The owner of the truck saw the suspect driving away in his truck, followed him in another vehicle and called 911 to report it. Police caught up with him at one time, but lost him at the transition of the 210 and 215 freeways. Police stopped the pursuit when the driver entered the freeway going the wrong way. Shortly after this happened, he collided and killed a 47-year old Riverside motorcyclist and then fled the scene on foot.
When caught, he will face charges of auto theft and gross vehicular manslaughter or murder charges.

Those people out for a nice late-night chicken dinner got more than they bargained for the other night. A chicken restaurant in Barstow, for the second time in two years, was the scene of a car crash.
Barstow Police reported that a driver hit a ladder and scaffold outside the restaurant, causing them to fall against the window and break it. The car also crashed into a fence and portable restaurant sign.
The driver got out of the car and fled on foot. He was apprehended three miles away and booked on suspicion of being involved in a hit-and-run crash. He remains in jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. Lucky for him no one was injured; however, I am sure the owner of the restaurant will file a lawsuit for damage to his property. I suggest he contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who can discuss next steps with him.

An 80-year old man walking in Apple Valley was hit by a car recently; the car never stopped to help him. Unfortunately there were no witnesses to this tragic incident. Police are asking anyone with information to please come forward. It is against the law to leave the scene of an accident according to California Vehicle Code Section 20001, “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.”
According to California Highway Patrol, two other people were killed in pedestrian accidents in Apple Valley in the last couple of years. It is difficult for the victim or a victim’s family to receive compensation when the at-fault driver is nowhere to be found.
However, I would suggest the family contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who can advise them of possibly being compensated through uninsured/underinsured motorist insurance.
I extend my condolences to the family for their tragic loss.

A bicyclist, was killed by a hit-and-run driver recently. However, the driver left a trail of car fluid which led police to a Jack-in-the-Box restaurant close by. After looking at the Jack-in-the Box video, police were able to identify him through his license plate number and the damage on his vehicle.
By the time police saw the video, the 29-year old driver was gone. The driver is currently on probation for a federal robbery charge.
Police have not been able to find him and are asking for help from the public. He is said to be driving a green 1997 Honda Civic with front-end damage. If spotted, please call San Bernardino Police Detective at 909-384-5664.
My sincere condolences go out to the family of the bicyclist.

Those enjoying the lovely climate in Lake Havasu recently got more than they bargained for. A 29-year old Huntington Beach man, was enjoying the water by sitting in an inner tube and being pulled by a boat. Something caused him to fall out of the tube. While waiting for the boat to return and pick him up, another boat, traveling about 40 mph hit him.
The boat fled down the lake without stopping. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is asking any witnesses to this incident to come forward by calling the Colorado River Sheriff’s Station at 760-326-9200. The boat is described as red, about 30 feet long with white stripes. The driver is a heavy-set man with a mustache, wearing a baseball cap. A blond-haired woman was a passenger.
Paramedics took the man to Havasu Landing Marina, where he was pronounced dead. My sympathies go out to the family of the man that died.

California Highway Patrol found the body of, a 21-year old man, on Interstate 10 near Cedar Avenue the other day. He was found against a metal guardrail on the center divider. They believe he might be the victim of a hit-and-run.
Police believe he was walking in the fast lane on the freeway, although they are not sure. They are not sure how long the body has been there. They could not find an abandoned vehicle anywhere in the area; however, they did find debris from a black vehicle near the body.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident or with any information regarding it, to call Officer John Avila at 909-383-4247.

The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin recently reported that a 22-year old man was critically injured when a car hit him on March 28 at the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Oaks Avenue in Ontario. The driver of that car left the scene without stopping. He was lying in the road when police arrived.
Police believe the man might have gotten into an argument with the other driver while at the intersection. They are investigating whether the driver deliberately hit the man. Police are asking anyone who witnessed this accident to contact them at 909-986-6711.
Leaving the scene of an accident is a serious crime in California; the driver should have remained until the police arrived. According to California Vehicle Code Section 20001, “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.”
