The 10 Freeway was shut down last week due to a westbound train crashing into the back of an eastbound train in Fontana and concerns of leaking fluids posing a health threat. After HAZMAT teams appeared at the scene, it was determined that the fluids were antifreeze, which does not pose a health threat.

The conductor was trapped inside with “heavy amounts of steel on his arm.”  A local hospital surgical team was called to the scene to extricate him from the train.  His arm had to be amputated in order to free him from the wreckage.

Union Pacific officials are trying to determine what caused the collision that resulted in the conductor losing his arm and the engineer being hospitalized.  They are reviewing all details to determine if it was a technical failure or human error.  It is fortunate that there were no fatalities.

If shown to be a technical failure, I would suggest the hurt conductor and engineer seek advice from an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney to see if they are eligible to compensation of their expenses.

For those of you who were stuck in traffic several months ago on the 10 Freeway in Loma Linda when a Redlands man crashed into a Toyota stopped on the shoulder, killing a woman and wounding another woman while they were changing a tire, here is an update.  The wounded woman suffered a compound fracture to her right leg.

San Bernardino Superior Court sentenced the 24-year old man, to nine months in the county jail.  The sentence is in accordance to a plea bargain where he agreed to plead guilty to one count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and one count of driving while under the influence of alcohol causing great bodily injury.

My sympathies go out to the family of the woman that dead.

A 46-year old Rancho Cucamonga man, died and a woman was injured in a six-car accident on the 10 Freeway recently according to the California Highway Patrol.  It was reported that the man sideswiped a Mazda and then hit a Mitsubishi.  Both of these vehicles hit other vehicles.

When the police officers arrived, the man was unconscious.  He was given CPR and taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.  He left behind a wife and two children.  The injured woman suffered minor lacerations to her head.

My condolences go out to the man’s family.
