Are you aware that an 18-wheeler truck weighs about 80,000 pounds compared to a passenger vehicle that weighs about 5,000 pounds? Are you also aware that one in every eight to ten traffic-related deaths involves the largest vehicle on the road - the 18-wheeler truck?
According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, approximately 500,000 trucking accidents happen every year in the United States. When these accidents occur, about 5,000 people die and more than 100,000 are seriously injured.
Since serious injuries require expensive treatments, these accidents can have long-term, disastrous effects on an emotional, physical and financial level.
If you or a loved one has been severely injured in an 18-wheeler trucking accident, or if a loved one has died in such an accident, contact a San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who has been successful in trucking accidents to determine whether you have a legal claim and are entitled to a settlement.

The big-rig driver was not injured; however, the woman in the SUV was taken to a nearby hospital where she died from her injuries. Her 16-year old daughter, who was a passenger in the SUV, was injured and taken to another hospital for treatment.

Many commuters were late for work the other day when a big-rig accident in Montclair caused a traffic nightmare on Interstate 10.
It began when a driver of a passenger vehicle lost control for unknown reasons and crashed into the big-rig. The big-rig driver swerved to the left of the road and crashed into another vehicle, causing both vehicles to slam into the center divider. The impact caused the big-rig’s diesel tank to rupture, causing the semi to catch on fire. It took firefighters over an hour to extinguish the flames.
The rig-rig driver and one of the other drivers were taken by air to nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Crews used a crane to upright the big-rig while Hazmat personnel cleaned up the spilled fuel on the ground.

The headlines are filled with horrific big-rig accidents every day. Many of them have resulted from fatigued or overworked drivers – some actually falling asleep behind the wheel.
Because truck drivers drive too many hours in a day, they tend to be overtired, causing them to also become negligent in their driving and driving in violation of a federal hours-of-service regulation. Unrealistic expectations have caused thousands of truckers to lose control, causing deaths of innocent people.
Drivers in California, along with all states, must follow minimum rest and maximum work requirements every day in a specific work period. Even with specific rules, truckers can work up to 70 hours a week in order to ensure their cargo reaches the destination on time.
California law requires all truck drivers to follow:
· Driving a maximum of 11 consecutive hours at one time
· A maximum of 14 consecutive on-duty hours
· A minimum of 10 consecutive off-duty hours between driving shift
If you are involved in an accident with an overtired or negligent trucker, contact a San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who has handled successful cases involving truck drivers.

A trucker involved in a chain-reaction accident on Interstate 15 last year will begin a nine-month jail sentence this month after pleading guilty to four misdemeanor counts of vehicular manslaughter.
The accident took place when an SUV with a family of four was stuck between two tractor-trailer trucks in stop-and-go traffic. The crash caused one of the trucks and the SUV to be engulfed in flames, killing the entire family.
The trucker said the crash happened so quickly; he had no time to do anything to avoid it due to the freeway construction all around him. He stated that he was not on his cell phone and he was not on drugs. He suffered burns to his hands, arm and face while trying to save one of the passengers of the SUV.
If a family member is killed in an accident as a result of a negligent driver, contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who will investigate your case to determine if you are entitled to file a wrongful death lawsuit and receive compensation for your loss and expenses.
