A 47-year old Apple Valley man on his motorcycle was killed in Victorville early the other morning when a 32-year old driver made a left-hand turn in front of him.  The 47-year old man was unable to stop in time and was thrown from his bike.

California Vehicle Code Section 21801(a) states, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to the approaching vehicles until the left turn or U-turn can be made with reasonable safety.”

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead minutes later.  Statistics show that approximately 10,000 people are injured every year in motorcycle accidents.  Let me remind you - May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness month.  Please pay attention to your surroundings and other vehicles while on the road.

The Victorville Major Accident Investigation team is investigating this accident to see what caused the fatal crash.

A study by the Office of Traffic Safety found that about 50% of all drivers are not aware that lane splitting by motorcycle riders is legal in California.  The month of May has been made, “Motorcycle Awareness Safety Month” in order to call attention the dangers that motorcyclists face while on the road.

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration state that motorcyclists are 25 times more likely to die in an accident than passenger car occupants and are 5 times more likely to suffer an injury.

The following are some basic safety measures for a motorcyclist to take while on the road:

·     Always wear a helmet

·     Do not ride drunk

·     Never assume that a passenger car driver sees you

A motorcyclist has the same rights as any other driver on the road.  If you are injured because of another person’s negligent actions, contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who will help you receive compensation for your damages and medical expenses.

Another medicine is under alert.  After taking Pradaxa, the FDA reported that 25 people are dead and almost one thousand people have complained of serious complications – half requiring hospitalization.  However, the drug has not been recalled yet.

Pradaxa is used to help patients who have a higher risk of stroke.  It is used to prevent blood clots in patients who have undergone surgery.  Apparently, the side effects outweigh the benefits for those who use it.   Side effects include internal and gastrointestinal bleeding, plus internal hemorrhaging.

If you or a loved one has been taking Pradaxa and have experienced any of the side effects, contact your doctor immediately and then consult with a San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who is successful in defending product liability cases.

Two motorcyclists and the driver of an SUV recently suffered major injuries when they crashed in Running Springs.

According to the California Highway Patrol officers, the two motorcyclists were riding closely to each other when an SUV going in the opposite direction, crossed the double yellow line into their path.  The first motorcyclist struck the front of the SUV, throwing him from his bike.  The same happened to the second motorcyclist.  The three victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries.

According to California Vehicle Code Section 21651(a), “Whenever a highway has been divided into two or more roadways by means of intermittent barriers or by means of a dividing section of not less than two feet in width, either unpaved or delineated by curbs, double-parallel lines, or other markings on the roadway, it is unlawful to drive any vehicle over, upon, or across the dividing section.”

The accident is under investigation and it is not clear if any charges will be filed.  Officers will look into whether the SUV driver was distracted, under the influence, speeding or something else.  If it is determined that he was at-fault, he could be held liable for the injuries and medical expenses of the two motorcyclists.

If you are the victim of a negligent driver’s actions, contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who will investigate your case to determine if you can seek compensation for your injuries, expenses, and pain and suffering.
